“The Friendly Horror” answers these questions. “The Friendly Horror” is the titular novella from the weird fiction collection The Friendly Horror and Other Weird Tales. Written by Jessica Burke and Anthony Burdge, “The Friendly Horror” is a contemporary postscript to H.P. Lovecraft’s “Shadows over Innsmouth” which connects Deep Ones, New York, and ice cream.

The story follows Silas as he undergoes his transformation and he records his family’s history since Innsmouth and the start of the Maxfield family ice cream parlor, visited by HP Lovecraft himself. Now settled on Staten Island, New York, Silas details the nefarious plans of the Maxfield family as he readies for the Sea.
